favours are whack, right?
Our ultimate goal is to bring an unexpected element of happiness to each persons special day. Nobody expects anything of favours, more time favours take a hammering, nobody appears to care for them and they almost always get left behind. It’s pretty disheartening to hear that so many people think they’re a complete waste but if I’m being honest, I have to agree! SHOCK! HORROR!! BOO!! HISS!
(If we’re friends and I was at your wedding cover your eyes now!) The main reason I started this thing is because I went to a series of five weddings in one year and the following things ran through my head when presented with each favour; 1. why are you giving me seeds/sweets/biscuits 2. even if you have spent a few £££ on these neatly packaged seeds/sweets/biscuits its such a waste of money because NOBODY WANTS THEM and 3. why on earth do people bother with favours. These three things were my inspiration for creating something better; favours that people wanted, that people could take away with them and keep forever as a memory of your special day, favours that weren’t a waste of money! (Granted our favours are potentially more expensive than these packets of seeds and the like but the £££ you spend on tat that nobody wants could go towards tat that people do want, good tat, the tat that your friends wear on their jacket when they’re out walking the pooch, tat that sits pride of place on grannies fire place or cardi, tat that you can wear on your honeymoon and say “this is us and all of our wedding guests each have one too, fully repping”. )
NB. Our pins aren’t tat, they’re really high grade. Just using the word tat for seamless wordplay.
I’m a member of a Facebook wedding community and over the past few days, wedding favours have been bought up in a very negative light. I wanted to respond to each of the comments individually with the ‘bell’ and ‘end’ emoji’s but I definitely would’ve been ejected from the group. It made me think “why am I bothering” because look at the bad press favours get, maybe trying to convince people that favours can be amazing is a big fat waste of time, PEOPLE HATE FAVOURS!! So I kept telling myself… “you were once that favour hater Sam Turley, relax your little batty”!
So I had my doubts, I thought about honouring my order book and then chucking the towel in, it was a dark two or so days for Sam T Made It. The end was nigh, darkness was closing in but then - like a beacon of hope, a Phoenix from the ashes, I received an email from The Wedding Industry Awards ‘Your TWIA feedback’. I opened up the email, logged into my TWIA account, clicked the voter feedback (feedback from couples who had favours from us) and read all of the wonderful comments - I was blown away (super emotional and welled up proper!). It was the lift I needed, the reminder that what we do isn’t a big fat waste of time, that wedding favours aren’t unnecessary, in fact it’s quite the opposite, they’re absolutely necessary, they’re bloody fantastic and do actually add that unexpected element of happiness we aim to deliver for each and every person that puts faith in favours!
To all you favours haters, I feel where you are coming from but please give favours a chance. Favours can be wicked just as long as they’re wicked favours!
(I’m not just blowing my own trumpet here neither, there are some really superb things to do out there that won’t be a waste of time, money and effort - you just need to let your imagination create something sensational - or just hit me up and we’ll do that for you!)
